take initiative
“Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” ESV
Ants, tiny bugs that we have stepped on more than we can count without even knowing it. Easily overlooked because we see no purpose of them. In the verse above, ants are a picture of wisdom and initiative. We see them as pointless, but they really spend all of their days preparing for the next season.
I know we’re on a weird topic but stay with me. Verse seven tells us that ants have no one in charge of them, aka they could spend their time doing anything and everything they want. No one to yell at them and no one to tell them what to do, yet they take action daily without being given any direction.
The difference with us is that we do have someone in charge of us and even better, gives us direction. The Lord has given us all the information we need in the bible. From how to be saved to how to continue in the pursuit of knowing the father and every endeavor along the way. Matthew 6:33 tells us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” ESV It’s that simple, as we seek the father we are given the rest.
How special is it that we all have the opportunity to seek the one who knows exactly where we’re headed, and as we take initiative he gives us the rest.
Take the time now to prepare now so that when the later season comes, you have the wisdom and knowledge to lead you through whatever it may be. Who would’ve thought the tiny life of an ant can be so convicting and filled with so much wisdom.
“If you prepare your heart, you will stretch out your hands toward him.” Job 11:13 ESV
